Paul Zelinsky
Paul Zelinsky is an author and illustrator for kid and adult books. He grew up in Wilmette, Illinois. His dad was a collage professor, and his family moved all the time.
Now Paul lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife and two grown daughters. The first book he ever wrote appeared in 1978.
Paul Zelinsky’s favorite things to do are art and to put his kids in books.
Maurice Sendak was Paul’s art professor in college. Maurice also inspired Paul in the direction to writing children’s books. Rapunzel won the Caldecott Medal and Swamp Angel won the Caldecott Honor.
Paul used great illustrating styles for all the books he illustrated. For example, he used folk art for Swamp Angel, and realism for Rapunzel. He captured the feeling and used pencil, pastel, canvas, drafting film, and wood for everyone else to see them.
Some of Zelinsky’s books that have been published are Rumpelstiltskin, Toys Go Out, Toy Dance Party, Rapunzel, Dust Devil, and Swamp Angel. I hope you get a chance to read them one day because they are so cool and awesome!
